Show-n-Tell with QFC Robin & her Pretty, Ruthless Mom

You remember Robin, Quilter First Class (QFC) and our first Quilts of Valor donor. When she and her mother visited us last week and we had a great mini Show & Tell session with all the quilts they brought with them.

The clever churn dash quilts (left and right) were part of a block exchange at their quilting guild, the Ruthless Quilters.  I never EVER would have thought of using a pink sashing, but it is a more than perfect choice.***

Robin used various “fish” print fabrics between her churn dash blocks and carried out the theme into the quilting. Click on the thumbnail picture of the churn dash to the right to see the quilting detail.

I was stunned by the beauty of the gardens of orange flowers. I don’t know why, but lately I have been drawn to the color orange – maybe it has something to do with the color of my head, who knows – but these two quilts just took my breath away. Talk about eye candy! Who wouldn’t be happy rolling themselves up in a Flowerbed of Happiness and Sunshine? Wouldn’t that make a lovely Project Linus quilt? Some little girl would be over the moon for that quilt!

And finally, we have Robin’s “God Bless America” quilt. Makes you just want to stand up and salute God, country, Mom, apple pie and all patriotic quilters everywhere.

So many beautiful quilts, ladies, thank you for sharing!

“Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.” -Goethe

***TEACHING NOTE: Whenever you find yourself looking at a quilt and saying “I NEVER would have thought to do that!” Stop, take a minute to think about it. You like what they’ve done, so why wouldn’t you have thought to do it? Is it a bold color choice? Is the fabric a kind of print that you normally would not have chosen? Think about how you can incorporate that quilter’s sense of style into your own work. Sometimes it’s that little “surprise” element in a quilt that really makes it sing. Be bold, believe in yourself as a creator of warm beauty and quilted happiness.
