St. Andrews Day, Advent Quilt Dedication
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, that you may declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9
“Out of the Darkness. . .”
by Kimberly Mason, Advent 2008, 29” x 54”, Hand Pieced & Embroidered, Machine Quilted.
Dedicated to John and Bobbi Ross in appreciation for their dedication to this church and to it’s people. Thank you, Bobbi, for your voice, your fellowship, for your service in Holy Communion. Thank you John for the sharing of your art, your good humor and your kindnesses. And thank you both for your annual St. Andrews Ministry of the Shortbread Cookies.
Dedicated also to the People of St. Timothy’s, who welcomed me into their fold during Advent of 2007. Advent is a time of reflection, anticipation, of fellowship and joy. . .though from my viewpoint, we have Advent year round at this church. You are beautiful people, I am very thankful for you.
This is a “one-patch” quilt, all of the pieces are cut using the same four-sided template. There are 72 different fabrics: 9 blue, 9 green, 52 purples, plus one golden yellow to represent the chalice and another to represent the bread.
The many different fabrics in this quilt represent you, my St. Timothy’s family. Each fabric was chosen with care and pieced together with love and sometimes accompanied with the joy of laughter. If you looked at my collection of fabrics, you might say, “Hmmm, that one doesn’t look like it belongs.” Or, “That one is much too bold. . .” or dark, or bright, or dull. But together they shine and bring light and peace into the world. Together, in Communion and in community, they are a wonderful testament to God’s Love and Light. Together, they keep me “Out of the Darkness” and bring me into the Light.
Thanks be to God.
