Live COURAGEOUSLY, Practice Joy, Accept Responsibility

adayofcourage

Courage isn’t the absence of fear, it isn’t the opposite of fear. Courage needs fear. Courage calculates the best odds for swift and sure action, and implements a plan. And courage does all this in spite of fear and in concert with fear. Fear is an integral part of living courageously.

“Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.” -Anais Nin

Fear is inevitable, courage is optional. You have to choose to act courageously, fear comes whether we like it or not. Fear comes upon us without warning, without welcome, without our will. And you can’t just wish it away and you can’t shoo it away; you must override it and overwhelm it. You can shove it behind you and forge ahead, but you still have to carry it with you.

“Never fear shadows. They simply mean there’s a light shining somewhere nearby.” -Ruth E. Renkel

So when fear comes over you, remember that the fear you are experiencing is necessary in order for you to be able to also feel courage. Without fear in our lives, there is no life of courage.
