I’m alive!!!

Yes, contrary to popular belief, I am, indeed, alive.

See? I have proof. I have sewn a new purse.

This is the Amy Butler pattern I started on August 31. Yup, Bobbi has been waiting an entire month and a half for her shop sample. Wheeeee!

My first excuse is that I have been sick for a week and a half. I also had a heck of a time cutting out batting and interfacing for all 50,000 pieces. (That’s ALMOST not an exaggeration. Honest.)

I hated every minute of cutting it out, of sewing it, of stewing over how in the heck to cut it out and where in there world Dear Amy wanted me to sew what. But in the end…

I adore this purse!

Everything I need fits in here perfectly, though the purse is smaller than my usual tote. Two reporter’s notebooks, my cell phone, glasses and even a pocket for gum and lip gloss. My wallet fits in cozily in the center with room to spare for a set of keys and a protein bar or two.

Bobbi was very smart to pick out fabric that I am not terribly fond of — though I become more and more fond of it as time passes — because then I won’t be (as) tempted to keep this one for myself.

BUT, as much as I am sure someone out there will like this fabric and its colors, I, however, think it clashes with my reddish hair. SO! See you on Friday, Miss Bobbi! I’ll stop by sometime between my icon writing lesson at 10:30 and the beer tasting and brewery tour at 3:00. 😀

  1. Oh my goodness, how fabulous are you! Nothing like taking yourself out of your box, stretching your creativity. Sorry you have been under the weather, we did miss you and hoped you weren’t feeling pressure, because there certainly is none. Sorry you didn’t enjoy the process. We do love and miss you, take care.

    • I ALWAYS hate doing things for the first time … well, MOST things 😛

I’m too crazy about this purse not to do it again. Once the prep work it done, it goes together rather quickly and easily.

  2. LOL! I LOVE the purse, but I’m laughing at your Friday schedule: Icon writing in the morning, beer tasting in the afternoon…how very Medieval! Oh, and I am very glad to hear that you are alive and well 😀

  3. This purse is a stand-out (in a good way). I like the fabric a lot, especially the lining. What is the pattern caslled — come on, be nice.

    • It’s called Amy Butler Sweet Harmony. There is a tote sized bag and a purse (that I made) in the pattern. I get so frustrated at patterns, I HATE to read them.

If you decide to try it, count on one day for cutting and fusing and one for sewing. And, personally, I think the cell phone pocket is WAY too small and I left it off — besides, I have plenty of room for my cell phone INSIDE the bag. I really LOVE the bag and I’m sure that my frustration level will be much lower the second time around. Besides, you also have to take into consideration that I really HATE prep work of any kind. :-[

  4. Your purse looks great. I have also been absent from blogging of late! Stuff just gets in the way! ~karen

    • … and stuffed up noses! What a baby I was for this cold, I dropped everything — I haven’t even taken any photos. The sun is out and it’s time to buck up and get better. “I think, therefore I am … free from the oppression of a stuffed nose!” 😛

And yes, I’ve noticed you haven’t blogged much, I’m a subscriber, ya know. I don’t blog but I still blog read! I hope all is wonderfully well with you or that it soon will be. Much love to you. ♥Kim

  5. Love this! The liner matches your wallet – you should use it even if you don’t like the outside 🙂

  6. P.S. I told Dr. Linthead that your schedule isn’t medieval – it’s Episcopal!

  7. I happen to LOVE this purse! Maybe it’s the colors–very amish that make it so appealing. I spotted purse handles at Joann’s yesterday and starting thinking “hmmm….” I’ve got so much fabric for totes/purses, and it takes up room until I use it. I wish I could send a certain spouse fishing for a couple of weeks…
